My name is Jesus Daniel Hernandez Flores, but I prefer to be called Danny. I grew up in Orange County and attended school in the city of Santa Ana, graduating in 2012 from Saddleback High School. I went to college but wasn’t particularly good in school, so I decided to stick to work.

My favorite sport is soccer, and I used to play every weekend during my teenage years until I suffered a significant knee injury. I also love street dancing, including pop/lock and breakdance. You’ll find me showcasing my moves at parties and clubs whenever I get the chance 😂

I listen to EDM 99% of the time, with Drum n Bass, Techno, Phonk, and Tropical House being my favorite sub-genres. Occasionally, you’ll catch me at a music festival. I became a Nutritional Coach & Personal Trainer because I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes, which served as a significant wake-up call for me. Now, I want to help my community by assisting them with their struggles and encouraging them to enjoy the foods they love, because who loves a strict diet? Certainly not me!

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
When I was just 2 years old, my parents left me behind. My dad had struggles with alcohol and crime, and my mom, who I don’t really know, never tried to contact me. I have an older sister, but I don’t remember her well, and I really want to meet or connect with her. After my family went back to Mexico, my aunt became like a mom to me. She’s an amazing cook, and I’m thankful for everything she did to give me a good life. I also grew up with my cousin who I call my sister, and has Down syndrome. Even though my stepdad isn’t my real dad, he provided for me every day. As I got older, we started disagreeing, and it led to me leaving home without telling them. Since then, I’ve been on my own, not knowing much about my past or any other family. Life has been challenging, and I carry a sense of loss, wanting to discover more about where I come from. I’m on a journey of self discovery, uncertain but determined to connect with my roots and learn about my family’s history. Each step forward is a leap into the unknown, but I’m ready to explore and understand my identity. I’m here to just be a better version of what my past has been, and make a positive impact in other people’s lives!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
My first job was at IL Fornaio restaurant in Irvine, where I worked as a dishwasher. I stayed there for about 3-4 years, and I absolutely loved the experience. Following that, I transitioned into warehouse jobs, primarily focusing on shipping/receiving and also working as a driver for the company. Life threw some challenges my way, but during that time, I crossed paths with a wonderful woman named Joanna. She opened the doors for me to become a Nutrition Coach, and I can’t express enough gratitude to her for giving me this incredible opportunity. Motivated by this newfound passion, I continued my studies independently and recently achieved certification as a personal trainer here in Newport Beach at The Look Fitness, all thanks to Leanne & Bryan for giving me this amazing opportunity. I love that in this career, I’m able to create an impact in my clients’ lives to better their lifestyle and themselves.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Sapori Italian Restaurant & True Foods kitchen are my 2 favorites.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I recently started my job in Newport, about a month ago. In my free time, I love exploring the malls and taking walks by the beach in this wonderful city. It’s not just about working here; my dream is to have my own place in Newport, making it a truly special part of my life.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
My friend Joanna holds a special place as my favorite and most intriguing person in Newport. It was her support that led me into the world of fitness coaching. Equally significant are Leanne and Bryan Greene, my cherished favorites, who offered invaluable support during challenging times. They not only provided the space for me to launch my business generously but also shared guidance that makes them the most interesting people I’ve encountered in Newport.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My favorite movie has to be “Unleashed” starring Jet Li. I resonate with the story because, like the protagonist, I don’t know my parents and was taken in by my aunt. Another movie would be the ‘Step Up’ movies, as I love street dancing and it brings so much joy when I see talented people express themselves through the art of dance. When it comes to shows, I watch a lot of anime, and one of my favorites is Naruto. His journey, growing up without parents, yet relentlessly pursuing his dreams and never giving up while always protecting his friends, deeply resonates with me.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
There are no shortcuts, only hard work. Train hard and be patient, it’ll pay off.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Barcelona, Spain, is both beautiful and peaceful. It happens to be my favorite soccer team, and I dream of visiting the stadium to watch a live game.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I have to say Avicii. His music is so iconic, and I admire his dedication to his work despite health challenges. For a great spot, consider Javier’s in Newport Beach, particularly during sunset, I believe he would truly appreciate it.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love the nightlife in Newport. There’s something about the nighttime scenery of the streets that I really enjoy. When my mind is overwhelmed, I like to sit at the beach and clear my thoughts by simply listening to the waves.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
At the beach, enjoying some piña coladas hahaha 😂🍹 On a more serious note, one of my goals is to have a well established business as a personal trainer and my own place in the city of Newport.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I initially aspired to be a music producer/DJ. I lied to my mom about attending college and taking computer science classes, which I did for the first semester. However, I eventually switched to MIDI classes to learn the basics of Dance Music. Also my favorite color is Pink.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Summer sunsets at the beach, no doubt about it!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
I have to say my friends, they have always been incredibly supportive and stood by me during my low moments. My clients are also dear to my heart, and I genuinely care about being the best coach for them. Joanna holds a special place, as without her, I’m unsure where I would be now; she played a crucial role in improving my life. So for them I want to be better and become the best version of myself.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Peace, love, & affection.
